My first idea for capstone was to create a documentary
styled film about an important social issue.
I feel this is kind of a weak way to complete a capstone if I was to
just make a film alone. I would enjoy
working with others to give each participant more focus in a certain skill
set. After completing advanced video
where I worked on a documentary about animal care and control. I have decide to try a different approach to
my capstone because the resulting film was a major let down to my aspirations.
I have always been inspired by independent films like the cove to encourage social change
My second idea for capstone would to somehow incorporate my
education with digital media and my experience with electrical theory and
devices. This idea is vague as of now. I have always been interested in creating a
midi controller that emits different spectrums of light where the user can
break each light paired with a motion sensor to trigger different digitally controlled
events. This device could be used with
pro tools, ableton, or another as of yet unknown software interface. I feel like this idea involves to much
engineering for my major in media arts.
I like this product called audio cubes but honestly this idea i thought of while djing at the melody inn, several years ago.

I would also enjoy working on studio engineering for another
capstone. I’m interested in mixing, Foley
work, and studio recording.
I gained interest in Foley work after learning from Mark Pfaff, Ph.D. in advanced audio

ReplyDeleteI'm digging your 2nd idea a lot. get a few arduino boards, a midi controller, some LED's and photo sensors...sounds like a fun time! I say go for that idea. You might try to pair it down a little to make it a more manageable project, but that would come with planning.

The second idea sounds incredible. That capstone would be a must-see. It sounds like a big project, but if you can do it, it would be awesome. Good luck! -Kelsey Dunning
ReplyDeleteSounds like a really cool idea. Foley sounds are the best! Those lights look cool and it'd be interesting to see how your project turned out.

I really like your second idea and paired with those light cubes I'm very eager to see how everything turns out!

ReplyDeleteI am definitely a fan of the documentary. Last summer I had the chance to meet a Russian in Amsterdam who had just returned from Morocco shooting a whole bunch of footage of this guy named Yassine who is pretty much a victim of his culture. Pressured to remain in his country while being addicted to hash - both cripple his hopes and aspirations of changing the world. Maybe it would help your thought process : http://www.openfilm.com/videos/the-day-when-my-day-began

ReplyDeleteJessica Faux - Love those cubes.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing what you decide to work on. I wouldn't let one bad film experience discourage you though.

ReplyDeletei think your idea about a midi controller sounds interesting. it sounds like a lot of work, but it sounds like you understand the concepts and technology to be able to pull it off. i will be producing a film as will many other people and i definately will need some audio help, but i dont think you should limit yourself to doing something well on someone else's project. i believe the common theme of the class we are in now is to realize that capstones may be are last chance to do what we want to do. when we get in to the "real world" we will be stuck doing other peoples' projects for awhile.
